The long awaited work to improve the drainage in the Playing Field off Sedgemoor Way has been completed and the field is now fully open again. It was paid for by way of several generous grants from Villages Together.

A maintenance plan has been drawn up. Once in place the ongoing maintenance and improvement plans for the whole area will move forward. The next task will be verti-draining and application of special sand and this is likely to take place during the spring when weather conditions are suitable.

The dogs on lead order has now been implemented with notices on all entrances to the field. Dogs can still be exercised in the field but must be kept on leads at all times which will ensure that they are under better control. It will also be easier for owners to see when they go to the toilet which should reduce the issue of dog fouling on the field. A review will be undertaken a year after the start of the implementation of the order as this give time for things to settle in and also to gain the views of all concerned.

Dogs must not enter the three fenced children's play areas in the village at Sedgemoor Way, Higher Road and at Lynham Close. This has always been the case and it has been confirmed in Somerset Council's new Order. Dogs can still be exercised in the Lower Playing Field.

Most people will agree that it is good that competitive youth football matches are taking place on the field again but, on 17th November, an Under 15s league match was delayed by the referee who deemed the pitch unsuitable due to the amount of dog waste left on the surface. A large amount had to be removed before the match could start.

This is not acceptable and gives a poor impression of the facilities in the field to visitors. There are dog waste bins available at the two main entrances to the field so there is no excuse for dog owners not being able to dispose of dog waste responsibly.
