We were delighted to learn on 13th September that the play area at Higher Road is still the best in Somerset when the Somerset Playing Fields' Association awarded it the June Wood Cup for the second year running. This year it beat the play area at Ilton into second place and Comeytrowe near Taunton came third. The cup was presented by the Chairman of the Somerset Playing Fields' Association, Councillor Dave Durdan.

We were also pleased that the Sports Field at Sedgemoor Way received a Highly Commended Certificate in the category for larger fields. We hope that we will improve on that score when the long term plans for improving the facilities in the field come to fruition but it is good to learn that it was considered that the field is already worthy of a commendation certificate. Somerton were the winners in this category for their field at Gassons Lane. Axbridge were runners up for their Furlong Field and the field at Ladymeade Lane in Churchill came third.
