This person settled in Woolavington 40 years ago. Since then he has been involved in many spheres of Village Life.
For 5 years was Chairman of the School PTA (1988 - 92) in that time, in addition to other duties he organised 5 successful fun runs, introducing the novelty, in those days, of computerised time keeping.
He was involved in yearly trips with the School to the Science & Natural History Museum as well as organising helicopter rides for the children.
He ran 15 New Year's Eve parties for the village, including a "special" for the new Millennium.
In addition, he was involved in organising Open Garden events 1984/85.
Not one to rest on his laurels, since 2013 he has been actively involved in the work of the Village Hall. This has included
Running repairs and day to day maintenance
Putting up new shelves
He project managed the complete repainting of the hall as well as the recent extension to the kitchen.
Organising and catering for a celebratory lunch to mark the kitchen extension
Made up storage lockers for various groups
Introduced a new website for the Village Hall.
Planted daffodil bulbs to the front of the hall as well as preparing the wild flower garden at the side of the hall with spectacular results
Recently he has organised two Treasure Hunts in the village.
There is much more that can be said, but time is limited. I am sure he will be the first to say that he could not have done all this without the support of his wife (Linda) and friends and other members of the Village Hall Committee.
Iain Bissell is therefore the worthy recipient of the title Woolavington Citizen of the Year 2019.
The photo shows Iain receiving the Citizen of the Year Cup from the Chairman of the Parish Council, Alan Sharp.
